Thordarson wants to operate with smaller squad next season
Crewe boss Gudjon Thordarson wants to trim his squad so that he can have quality and not quantity next season, according to chairman John Bowler.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I can see that happening, but we need to do get the balance right so that we can compete successfully in League One."
Crewe have 32 professionals on their books this season and six players have signed on loan.
Crewe have taken 26 points in the 16 games Thordarson has been in charge.
He is already making plans for next season and has sounded out a new goalkeeper ready for the summer.
"I think it is vital for any football club to have a strong goalkeeper and solid defence," Thordarson said.
'I have already spoken to a goalkeeper about possibly coming here in the summer. He is relatively young, around the mid 20's and is Championship quality.
"I have had a reasonably positive response, so that is something we will look to do at the end of the season."
