Everton goalkeeper John Ruddy has said his loan spell at Crewe Alexandra has been one of the best of his career.

Ruddy, 22, has been on loan at eight different clubs since joining the Toffees from Cambridge in 2005.

He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I came here to play games and I've done that. The lads are all very good players.

"Of all the clubs I've been at, the character here at Crewe is second to none because of the way they've got themselves out of trouble."

Ruddy added: "The manager (Gudjon Thordarson) has been brilliant with me. He told me what he wanted and I think I've shown that in the last 13 games."

If you start to look forward more to some games than others, you'll drop points

The young goalkeeper also said that the performance in the 3-2 defeat by Leeds on Saturday and Tuesday's 2-2 draw at MK Dons has proved why he is enjoying his time at Crewe so much.

"The last two games demonstrated that we have a lot of character in the side," he said.

"Not many teams would have come back from 3-0 down like that, so we can take a lot of heart from that Leeds game.

"We know that we're good enough to get points on the board. If you start to look forward more to some games than others, you'll drop points."
