Clayton Donaldson arrived at Crewe from Hibernian in August
Crewe striker Clayton Donaldson has revealed that he has always had the ability to take long throw-ins.
Donaldson's ability to launch the ball, first seen in the 3-2 FA Cup defeat at home to Millwall, was again employed in Saturday's 3-2 win over Scunthorpe.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I did the long throws in the youth team at Hull but I stopped using them.
"I tried it in the last minute against Millwall and we nearly scored with it against Scunthorpe."
The former Hibernian striker admits that he has been inspired to use his forgotten talent after seeing the success Rory Delap has had this term for neighbours Stoke City.
"Everyone has seen Stoke use the long throw this season," said Donaldson. "Now people know I can do it they haven't stopped talking about it.
"But it is another weapon and it's good to have in the team."
Despite being bottom of League One, the Alex have now taken 10 points from their last five games. And Donaldson suggestas that they have given themselves a fighting chance of avoiding relegation.
"We're about halfway through the season," he said. "And we've started 2009 on a high. "There's still lots of points to play for so hopefully we can end the season on a high."
