New Crewe manager Gudjon Thordarson has said he is excited by the challenge of keeping the Alex in League One.
Thordarson took up his role at the Alexandra Stadium on Tuesday with the Railwaymen bottom of the table, seven points from safety.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "It's been an exciting few days, I am very much looking forward to the challenge.
"I'm honoured to take the job. I'm fully aware of the task but I'm sure we can turn things around."
The Icelander is making a return to English football after previously having spells in charge of Stoke City, Barnsley and Notts County.
He said he was aware of the size of the task he faces to improve the fortunes of the South Cheshire club.

"I won't give any promises, I have to dig in to get the club up and running again," said Thordarson.
"I will cope with what is in front of me in the best way I think is suitable.
"It is a hard task, but we have a chance. I honestly believe we can stay up."
The 53-year-old also said that building confidence in the dressing room at the Alexandra Stadium will be one of his main priorities.
"It is my job to get the maximum from each player," added Thordarson.
"I think it is vital to get confidence in the camp and to give everyone a fair chance."
