Dario Gradi believes the players signed by Crewe's new manager in the January transfer window will decide whether or not the Alex avoid relegation.
Gradi is the current caretaker at Crewe, with either Gudjon Thordarson or John Ward likely to be named as the club's new manager in the next week.
He told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm not sure this team is good enough to stay up.
"How we do will depend on who the next manager brings in. I think we need to add a bit more quality."
The Alex drew 0-0 with Millwall at the New Den on Saturday to earn only their second point away from home this season.

"It was an excellent point, which the players worked really hard for," said Gradi.
"The defending was excellent and the workrate was excellent but the football we played wasn't quite good enough to win the game."
