Roberts has made over 100 appearances for Crewe

Transfer-listed midfielder Gary Roberts has been given another chance to save his Crewe career by first-team coach Steve Holland.

After training alone all summer, Roberts was not allocated a squad number for the coming season but has now held talks with Holland.

"Gary told me that he's made mistakes but wants to fight for a place in the team," Holland told BBC Radio Stoke.

"That's exactly what I wanted to hear. If he does as he says, then terrific."

The 21-year-old had been linked with a move to Cardiff City but Holland has confirmed that the Bluebirds have ended their interest.

"We had a call from Dave Jones after some involvement from Neil Cox who used to play for Cardiff.

"But Dave has since told us that Gary isn't a player he is interested in."
