Holland keen to bring in strikers
Nicky Maynard
Maynard has scored four goals for the Alex this season
Crewe coach Steve Holland will step up his search for a striker if Nicky Maynard's hamstring injury is worse than first feared.

Maynard lasted just 22 minutes of the 0-0 draw at Northampton before he sustained the injury.

Alex have identified a number of transfer targets but has so far been unsuccessful in signing any strikers.

Holland told BBC Radio Stoke: "We'll just have to keep trying. We could do with two new strikers, not just one."

He added: "We had a good go at signing McLeod (Charlton Athletic striker Izale), but he decided to go to Colchester instead because he wanted to stay in the Championship.

"There's no other answer - we'll just keep trying."

Maynard's hamstring problem is the latest in a long list of injuries that the young striker has had to overcome this season.

The 21-year-old, who has scored four goals so far this term, suffered a broken leg on the opening day of the season against Brighton.

Holland said: "You just worry that with the history of his season, it's not a good sign for him to be picking up this type of injury at this stage."
