Coventry City have sacked manager Aidy Boothroyd following a run of only one victory in 16 league games.

Boothroyd, 40, was appointed Sky Blues boss in May 2010 following the departure of Chris Coleman.

Assistant boss Martin Pert has also left while first-team coach Steve Harrison and chief scout Andy Thorn have been put in temporary charge.

Coventry are now looking for their 10th manager in 10 years since Gordon Strachan left in September 2001.

In a statement to the League Managers Association Boothroyd revealed his frustration at being relieved of his duties.

"I am deeply disappointed to be leaving Coventry City and to be the ninth manager dismissed from the club in 10 years.

"Last Christmas I took the club to its highest league position for several years and, since then, we have had to endure a period of injuries and suspensions to seven key players, during which time we have played most of the top teams in the league.

"It is a shame that I have not been given the chance to take the club back up the league table where we were at the turn of the year."

The Yorkshireman left Colchester United, where he had been manager for nine and a half months, to take charge at the Ricoh Arena.

He had previously been in charge at Watford and led the Hornets to the Premier League in 2006, his first full campaign in management, before they were relegated the following season. He left Vicarage Road in November 2008.

A statement on the club website read: "We would like to place on record our thanks to Aidy and Martin for their efforts.

"We will not be holding a media conference today as the team is preparing for the match at Burnley."

Having been fifth at the start of December, the Sky Blues are now 19th in the Championship table, just seven points off the relegation zone, and will now travel to Burnley on Tuesday without a permanent manager in charge.

Coventry's best run in the Championship this season came directly before their recent poor form, when the Sky Blues went on a three-game winning streak.
