O'Donovan made just four league starts for Sunderland
Coventry City have agreed to re-sign Sunderland striker Roy O'Donovan on a three-year contract.
The 24-year-old, a former Sky Blues trainee, will officially join the club on 1 July following the expiry of his deal on Wearside.
O'Donovan joined the Black Cats from Cork City in 2006 but has since made just 19 appearances for the club.
Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd told the club website: "There is no doubting he can make his mark on the Championship."
O'Donovan is Boothroyd's third signing, following the arrivals of Gary McSheffrey and Stephen O'Halloran.
After leaving the Sky Blues for the first time, O'Donovan established himself in the League of Ireland with Cork, scoring 31 goals in 74 league appearances and winning the league title and golden boot.
He finished last season on loan at League One side Hartlepool United, netting nine times in 15 appearances.
