Colchester boss Aidy Boothroyd wants winning run

Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd says his side must improve to make a final push for promotion.

The U's are sixth in League One, with a two-point advantage over seventh-placed Huddersfield, despite taking just one point from their last four matches.

"We need to bounce back and go on a winning run," Boothroyd told BBC Essex. "It's getting tight but we have the potential to get automatic promotion."

"In two weeks, it could be a different scenario. We could be pushing."

Boothroyd added: "But I don't tend to use words like 'ifs' and 'maybes'. I just get on with what needs to be done."

Boothroyd is now looking for his side to return to winning ways on Tuesday night against Brentford at the Community Stadium (23 March, 1945 GMT).

"This is a big game for us," he added. "They've beaten us already and we've got to make sure that we make use of our game in hand.

"We've got to put pressure on those below us to win and those above as well."
