Colchester United defender Phil Ifil set his sights on sealing a new deal with the club after scoring his first goal in professional football.
He opened the scoring for the U's in their 2-1 win at Brighton on Friday.
Ifil, 23, told BBC Essex: "I'm nice and happy at the moment, it was great to score a goal, I just want to stay in the side.
"This is my last year contract-wise, so I just want to earn a new contract and play for Colchester."
Ifil moved to Colchester in January 2008 from Tottenham Hotspur but struggled to secure a regular starting place under former manager Paul Lambert.
He has made five starts for the club since Aidy Boothroyd took charge in September 2009.
