Southend produced a superb fightback from two goals down at half-time to stun Hartlepool at Roots Hall.
The visitors took the lead after eight minutes when Adam Boyd fired in a low shot, before Andy Monkhouse's 25-yard effort deflected in off Anthony Grant.
But after the break Francis Laurent headed in Scott Malone's free-kick and Lee Barnard slid home from six yards.
Barnard headed in Damian Scannell's cross before substitute Ben Clark was shown a second yellow card late on.
Southend ended a run of three straight defeats. But, for Hartlepool, it was a third successive loss on their travels.
Southend United manager Steve Tilson told BBC Essex:
"I think we deserved to win the game. We came in 2-0 down at half-time and they've had two shots and scored two goals.
"There was no use us feeling down for ourselves.
"It was great to score three goals and I thought it was another good performance."
Hartlepool boss Chris Turner told BBC Tees:
"I don't think we played well in the first half. We found ourselves 2-0 up at half time but really I'm not sure we deserved it.
"I said to the boys, we needed in the first 20 minutes of the second half to ensure that we don't concede.
"And, unfortunately, we gave some bad goals away, reminiscent of last season."
