Okuonghae was out of contract at Dagenham and Redbridge
Colchester United have been told to pay Dagenham and Redbridge an initial fee of £45,000 for Magnus Okuonghae.
A Football League tribunal determined the figure after the clubs failed to agree compensation for the defender's switch earlier this summer.
The fee could rise to £80,000 depending on appearances and performance and the Daggers will receive 20% of any profit made if he is sold in the future.
Okuonghae made his debut for the U's in Saturday's 7-1 win at Norwich.
