Grays opened their Blue Square Premier campaign with a goalless draw against Histon at the Glass World Stadium.

Grays could have broken the deadlock in the first minute of the game, but Adriano Rigoglioso was denied by Histon goalkeeper Danny Naisbitt.

Visiting goalkeeper Preston Edwards then took centre stage, making saves from Danny Wright and Jamie Barker.

Michael Frew was also twice denied by Edwards before Josh Simpson and Gareth Gwillim both lashed over the bar.

Grays were scheduled to play crisis club Chester on the opening Saturday of the season, but the game was postponed at the request of the Football Association.
