Colchester United boss Paul Lambert said he had high hopes for loanee winger Lewis Gobern.
The 24-year-old made his U's debut in Saturday's 3-1 home win over Cheltenham, after signing one a one-month loan deal from Wolves last week.
"He is a top player, there's no doubt about it," Lambert told BBC Essex.
"We have got him for a spell and we will try to get the best out of him, but I thought he was terrific when he came on."
Gobern has had limited opportunities at his parent club, making just a handful of appearances since signing as a trainee in 2004.
But Lambert said he was hopeful his spell at the Community Stadium would allow him a chance to show his true potential.
"When I spoke to Mick McCarthy about him he said if he was fit he would certainly be around about the Wolves team," he explained.
"If Lewis delivers for us then he's helping myself, helping the football club and also helping himself to get his career on track," he added.
