Former Chesterfield captain Mark Allott has returned to the club on a two-year deal after eight weeks at Tranmere.
The 31-year-old midfielder left Oldham for Rovers last month, but new manager John Barnes was willing to let him go.
Allott told BBC Radio Sheffield: "I had signed for Tranmere under Ronnie Moore, but then John Barnes came in.
"I got the call on Friday, and then I was able to speak to Chesterfield. I want to be part of something this season, maybe promotion."
