Chesterfield have signed striker Martin Gritton from Macclesfield Town until June 2011 for an undisclosed fee.
The 30-year-old joined the Silkmen in the summer of 2007, scoring 16 times.
He had been lined up to replace Jamie Ward but the Spireites decided to carry on with the deal despite Ward's Barnsley move falling through.
Gritton, who has had spells at Plymouth Argyle, Grimsby Town and Lincoln City, may make his debut against Rochdale at home on Saturday.
