Chester boss Wright stays for now

Wright will keep battling away at cash-strapped Chester

Chester City boss Mark Wright has pledged his immediate future to the League Two strugglers despite threatening to quit at the weekend.

Wright is frustrated by the club still being under a transfer embargo, as well as uncertainty regarding a takeover.

But he will now wait to see if the club will be bought by Gary Metcalf.

Wright told the Chester Evening Leader: "The takeover has not yet gone ahead, so I've decided to stay and put things right for as long as I can."

Wright told BBC Merseyside after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Bury that he had been considering his position.

Despite Ryan Lowe's injury-time equaliser at Gigg Lane, it was City's 17th successive game without a win since Boxing Day.

Is it fair on anybody? I think the answer is 'no' at this moment in time

The club have been forced to rely on too many of their untried young players, and a slide into the drop zone has been somewhat inevitable.

"It's getting to me," said Wright after the game.

"A takeover takes place and and we still can't do anything. Now is the time for me to sit back and have a good think about what is right. It's more than frustrating now.

"It's totally unjust on the players.

"Is it fair on anybody? I think the answer is 'no' at this moment in time.

"If I bring players in and the players I put together aren't right - then I will take it on the chin and I'll sit tight.

"But we've not been able to bring anybody in so it's more than frustrating."

Although now having dropped into the bottom two, Chester are not down yet, though.

And, going into Saturday's match with Bradford City at the Deva Stadium, Wright's men can at least feel encouraged by having drawn their last two games.

Wright admits he will be sad to see the back of the outgoing Stephan Vaughan when he sells out to the club's prospective new owner, Liverpool businessman Metcalf.

"I'm saddened by the chairman leaving, if I'm being totally honest," added Wright. "I came here to work under him again because I know what he's like and he wants to win games.

"Now that's changed and I haven't spoken to the new people. But I really think I need to sit down and assess my own position."
