Paul Baker watched Saturday's Cup tie among over 1,100 Cheltenham fans

Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker says that any signings in January will depend on the team's league position.

But, despite being knocked out of the FA Cup at Southampton on Saturday, Baker reckons their share of the 9,276 crowd will help generate over £30,000.

"We made £18,000 from the first round. That's £50,000 we didn't budget for. It helps cash flow and clears some debt.

"If we're in the top 10 at Christmas we'll look to invest in players," Baker told BBC Gloucestershire.

"The crowd at Southampton was a bit disappointing. We took more fans than Shrewsbury did in the first round and yet the crowd was down.

"But that's a sign of the times and Southampton have had a lot of home games lately."

"And our crowds now need to hold up at home."

"We need to sustain those until the end of the season, push on and get in the play-offs and then we'll have had a good season."

Cheltenham are currently on a five-match unbeaten run in League Two, ahead of their rearranged home game against Southend on November 30.
