Cheltenham Town chairman Paul Baker has set the club the target of a top-10 finish in League Two this season.

Mark Yates starts his first full term as manager after narrowly avoiding back-to-back relegations in the spring.

"We have to assume our status will be based on our crowds and our playing budget and mid-table is realistic," Baker told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

"We need to be more ambitious than that and we would look to be getting a top-10 finish this season."

Baker also revealed that the club's wage bill for players has gone down by around 10% from a year ago and is half what it was two years ago when Cheltenham were in League one.

But he also expressed his continued dismay that fellow chairman moan about high wages in the game and yet continue to pay them.

"There are some big clubs in this league, I've been staggered at some of the wages that have been going round," he said.

"Every year the chairmen meet up at the chairman's conference and say 'the big problem in football is players wages'."

"But every year chairmen of different clubs still go and pay huge amounts of money for what I would say are average players."
