Tim Flowers helps Cheltenham Town keepers - Scott Brown

Cheltenham number one Scott Brown has revealed former England goalkeeper Tim Flowers has been helping the Robins.

The club have been without a keeping coach since Barry Richardson left in a cost-cutting measure in January.

"We've had Tim Flowers in for the last two Thursdays and it's been brilliant," Brown told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.

Flowers, 43, added: "I've not seen Scott Brown in a live game but he seems technically good, is keen to learn and he's not hit his prime yet.

"First impressions are good," the former Blackburn and Southampton player continued.

"I've done three sessions now, they are willing lads and they want to work. I played for 20 years and two thirds of that time was in dogfights. You've got to be strong and bounce back. If you can put a couple of wins together you can be looking at the middle of the table and really take the heat off yourselves."

And Brown admitted that Flowers' experience has helped his performances in the Cheltenham goal.

"If you can't learn off him, you can't learn off anybody," Brown said. "He's a legend. He's been great and the gaffer [Mark Yates] has been brilliant for getting him in."

Flowers began his playing days at Southampton as Peter Shilton's understudy and won the Premier League title with Blackburn in 1995, before moving to Leicester City.

Even if it's just been for two sessions he's been brilliant

He is the fourth person to help Cheltenham's keepers in recent seasons, following on from Pat Mountain, ex-Northern Ireland international Alan Fettis and Richardson.

Flowers, who won 11 caps, has also been coaching Yates's former club Kidderminster, and it is not clear if he will continue to help out at the Robins' training ground.

Brown said: "He's really down to earth and if you want to ask him anything he's really helpful.

"I'm not sure if it's going to be a permanent arrangement, but even if it's just been for two sessions he's been brilliant."

Meanwhile midfielder Joss Labadie has returned to West Bromwich Albion after 11 appearances on loan at Whaddon Road since November. Cheltenham head to Barnet on Saturday hoping to extend a run of four matches away from home without defeat, after being beaten 1-0 at Whaddon Road by Burton on Tuesday.
