Hayles played in the Premier League for Fulham and spent six years at Craven Cottage
Cheltenham boss Martin Allen has made his most significant summer signing so far in the form of Barry Hayles.
The 37-year-old striker has signed a one-year contract at the League Two club after impressing the Robins manager in pre-season.
The former Leicester City forward had two loan spells with the Robins last season, scoring four goals.
Allen told BBC Gloucestershire: "The deal was agreed over the weekend and I think he'll be a good signing for us."
"He's confident, he's a goal scorer and I need him to be fit for the games, so we won't ask Barry to train every day."
Hayles can list Bristol Rovers, Millwall and Fulham among his former clubs, spending six seasons with the Cottagers, helping them win promotion to the Premiership.
The Robins manager is also in talks with former frontman Julian Alsop who made a surprise return to help the Whaddon Road club to a 2-1 win at non-league Weston-super-Mare.
Alsop had three seasons at Cheltenham before leaving for Oxford United in 2003.
