Constantine enjoyed the best spell of his career at Port Vale
Cheltenham have signed Leon Constantine on loan until the end of the season to cover the departure of veteran striker Damian Spencer, 27.
Spencer, who has been at Town since 2002, has joined Brentford on loan.
The 31-year-old Constantine, who has played for 13 clubs during a nomadic career, joins from Northampton.
He has scored three goals for the Cobblers since joining in July 2008, including one against the Robins in a 4-2 win in his first outing this term.
"A few years ago he got something like 20 goals at Port Vale," Robins manager Martin Allen told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"But he had a torrid time at Leeds with injuries and it's a little like playing poker with your hands behind your back, but he's had a scoring record in the past and hopefully he can take some chances."
Allen offered Spencer a new deal but expects the player to move to Brentford and join Ian Westlake and Ashley Vincent in leaving Whaddon Road.
He has also recruited 18-year-old Reading winger Michael Antonio on loan until the end of the season to cap a busy week in the transfer market for the League One strugglers.
