Scott Redding is targeting a top-five finish in the 125cc Championship, which starts on Sunday 12 April in Qatar.
The 16-year-old, from Gloucestershire, capped his first season with victory at the British Grand Prix and came 11th overall in the standings.
And while he is still getting to grips with his Blusens Aprilia factory bike, Redding believes he can make an impact.
"I'm up and down the board trying to get the right setup but I'd like to get top five," he told BBC Points West.
"There's still more time I can find with the bike. It's just getting the suspension to work well and getting more tyre life for the race."
I can't wait to start because it's been a long winter and I want to get racing

After a series of tests in Spain Redding is relishing the chance of getting back on the track for real in Qatar, where he opened his account last year with a fifth-placed finish.
"Testing has gone okay," he said. "It has taken us time to adjust to the new Aprilia but we are getting there.
"These two days in Qatar testing before the race will be very important. I can't wait to start because it's been a long winter and I want to get racing."
