Oram is still recovering from a Achilles tendon injury |
New Zealand have included all-rounder Jacob Oram in a 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 in England in June. He is chosen on the assumption he will be fully fit, after recently recovering from an Achilles injury that ruled him out of the Test series against India. Four others are recalled to the squad after being absent from the side that played two Twenty20s against India. Peter McGlashan, James Franklin, Kyle Mills and Scott Styris are the players back in the Black Caps squad. Uncapped all-rounder Brendon Diamanti is also included in New Zealand's squad. | 606: DEBATE |
Diamanti comes into the side after good form in this season's domestic State Shield, with a batting average of 47.60 at a strike rate of 102. And Franklin's selection means Gloucestershire face losing their overseas signing for a month of the season, with players set to meet in a training camp in mid-May ahead of their first warm-up match on 1 June. However, one-day specialists Grant Elliott and Tim Southee have been left out, and are in a list of replacement players. Head of the selection panel, Glenn Turner, said the fickle English climate had presented a challenge in selecting the side. "We're really not sure what conditions will prevail in early June," he said. "But being able to take 15 players means we have hopefully been able to cover all angles. "In selecting the side we have been particularly conscious of selecting players in the middle and lower order who are boundary hitters. "We have retained aggressive but more orthodox batsman in the top order - and we're looking for that extra aggression lower down the order as well." Most of the other teams have named a 30-man squad at this stage - with teams obliged to reduce their squads to 15 by 1 May. However, New Zealand have named a back-up squad of 15 (in effect a squad of 30) - from which any replacement players will be drawn.
