N'Guemo was wanted by Mowbray last season at West Brom

Celtic manager Tony Mowbray says Landry N'Guemo will add welcome competition in midfield after signing the Cameroon international from Nancy.

N'Guemo, 23, has agreed a year-long loan deal with Celtic then having the option of making the move permanent.

"He creates competition in a part of the field where we are a bit lighter than last year with Nakamura and Hartley moving on," said Mowbray.

"I am looking forward to working with him and seeing how he gets on."

N'Guemo will link up again with striker Marc-Antoine Fortune, who signed for £3.8m from Nancy last week.

Defensive midfielder N'Guemo was wanted last season by Mowbray at West Brom, where Fortune ended the season on loan.

N'Guemo was glad of a chance to join the Glasgow club despite reported interest from top-flight clubs in England.

"I feel very happy," he said. "I joined because Celtic is a big club and it was a pleasure to know that Celtic wanted me."

N'Guemo is hopeful of remaining with the Scottish Premier League club beyond his loan spell should he impress in Glasgow.
