Carlisle United sign midfielder Marc-Antoine Gbarssin

Carlisle United

Carlisle United have signed French midfielder Marc-Antoine Gbarssin on a one-month contract following a successful three-week trial.

The club are awaiting international clearance and plan to complete the paperwork when the transfer window opens on 1 January.

The 26-year-old former Royal Antwerp player will not be eligible for Saturday's clash with Huddersfield.

Gbarssin is a free agent after leaving Danish side FC Fredericia.

He started his career at hometown club Bordeaux and has also had spells at Grenoble, SK Lombeek and RE Virton.

Carlisle boss Greg Abbott told the club website: "Marco has done really well during the last three weeks and he's one we've managed to sneak under the radar.

"He's played to a good standard abroad and was recommended to me by a good friend of mine who told me he was worth a look.

"He's a really tough, solid but capable player who rarely gives the ball away.

"This month will show us whether he is capable of kicking on to the next level and if he manages that, he'll reward himself by earning a longer contract."
