Stenhousemuir have named former Gretna and Morton boss Davie Irons as their new manager.

Head of youth Graeme Robertson and under-19s manager Kevin McGoldrick had taken charge of the first team on an interim basis.

John Coughlin quit as manager of the Second Division club in early December.

Irons had notable spells as a player with Dunfermline, Partick and St Johnstone before becoming assistant to Rowan Alexander at Gretna in 2005.

He took over the reins at Raydale Park the following year, leading Gretna to the Scottish Premier League, before resigning in 2008.

Irons was then in charge at Morton until September 2009 before joining South of Scotland league side Threave Rovers as a player/coach.

A short spell as Partick Thistle assistant manager was followed by a return to Threave as player/coach.

He became the oldest player to play in a Scottish Cup match when he turned out for Threave in November, ironically against Stehousemuir.
