Abbott's Carlisle side are currently fourth in League One
Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has agreed a two-year extension to his contract at Brunton Park.
Chairman Andrew Jenkins told supporters at the club's Annual General Meeting that Abbott had agreed a deal to stay until 2013.
"We're delighted that we have sorted this out," Jenkins told the club's official website.
"We feel that he is doing a great job and that he and his team are going from strength to strength."
Abbott's new deal is a reward for bringing stability to Brunton Park, as well as a trip to Wembley in the shape of last season's Johnstone's Paint Trophy final defeat by Southampton.
We all know how we like to work and I feel that we can move this club forward even more
Carlisle boss Greg Abbott
The 46-year-old arrived at the club as assistant to Neil McDonald and enjoyed a spell as caretaker boss before staying on as assistant to John Ward.
Ward's exit in November 2008 gave Abbott the opportunity to take on the role on a permanent basis, and, having saved the club from the threat of relegation at the end of the 2008-09 season, he established the Cumbrians as a mid-table side last term in addition to taking them to Wembley.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the club and I am delighted that it will continue," said Abbott.
"Everything has been agreed in principle and it is good that we can begin to plan in earnest, not just for the remainder of this season but for further beyond that as well.
"We will formalise the signing of contracts when I have had chance to talk to the remainder of my coaching staff because I feel that it's really important that the management team that has worked so hard to come this far stays together.
"We all know how we like to work and I feel that we can move this club forward even more.
