Carlisle defender McDaid is ruled out for the season
McDaid joined Carlisle after five years with Doncaster Rovers
Carlisle United defender Sean McDaid has been ruled out for the rest of the season following surgery this week.
The 24-year-old left-back, who signed a one-year deal in the summer, underwent an operation on his right knee after complaining of discomfort.
Carlisle manager Greg Abbott said: "Sean has been fantastic for us so far this season and he will be a huge miss both on and off the pitch.
"We will now support Sean as much as we can as he begins the recovery process."
McDaid felt a 'click' in the knee joint during the 2-1 defeat at Exeter last Saturday, but was able to complete the 90 minutes with no further problems.
He later reported some stiffness in the knee followed by swelling around the area when he came in for training on Monday morning.
He was subsequently scanned that evening and an examination by a surgeon led to an operation on the knee that was completed on Thursday afternoon.
Abbott said: "He typifies the kind of player that every manager wants in his squad with his attitude, work rate and overall professionalism, and he carries that onto the field of play every time he crosses the white line."
