Greg Abbott praises Carlisle United winger Matty Robson

Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott has praised the match-winning display of winger Matty Robson in Saturday's 1-0 win over Notts County.

Robson, 25, came off the bench to set up Gary Madine for the only goal of the game and maintain the club's place in the League One promotion places.

"Matty was breathtaking at times," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"He terrorised John Thompson and gave us that extra bit of drive and pace and power down the left-hand side."

Abbott signed Robson from divisional rivals Hartlepool United in June 2009, after seven years at Victoria Park.

Meanwhile Ivorian midfielder Francois Zoko, a summer signing, overcame fitness worries to play his part in Saturday's win.

"He came through a friend of mine who knows the agent who recommended him very well," Abbott said.

"We hunted him out and sought after him through the summer.

"We got him in, we worked with him pre-season and it was his honesty that we liked and the way he responded to the work ethic at the club.

"His ability is very good but we found the right type of person as well, and I think the crowd are loving him here."
