Robson made more than 150 appearances for Hartlepool
New Carlisle United signing Matty Robson has admitted he had become stuck "in a rut" at former club Hartlepool.
Robson, 24, agreed a two-year deal with the Cumbrians after rejecting a new contract at Victoria Park.
"I was not playing as much as I would have liked to and I just needed a new challenge," he told BBC Radio Cumbria.
"At this stage of my career I just want to play regular games, it's a relief in a way and I'm delighted to sign for a big club like this."
The Durham-born player became Carlisle's third signing of the summer following the additions of defender Ian Harte and goalkeeper Adam Collin.
"Personally, last season I thought I was playing well," he said.

"I was getting my chances and then being taken out of the team which was frustrating and it was just knocking my confidence.
"I've the chance here to put everything right and show people what I am capable of week-in, week-out."
Robson had also reportedly attracted the interest of former manager Danny Wilson at Swindon Town.
"Obviously there were a few rumours but Carlisle were the only club to put their cards on the table.
"My partner works locally as well so it was ideal to only travel an hour out of the way."
Robson joined Hartlepool as a trainee and made over 150 appearances for the club, scoring 10 times in seven seasons.
"It wasn't a difficult decision to leave Hartlepool to play regular football," Robson said.
"Obviously I've got a lot of friends over there but I just had to think about what was right for me and this was the right move."
The left-winger is also looking forward to playing in front of a Carlisle crowd that has impressed him when playing against the Cumbrians in recent seasons.
"They're passionate and they get behind the team, you only have to look at their attendances and the stadium.
"Hopefully we can have a good season. It's going to be tough but I'm delighted to be here and really looking forward to a new challenge."
