Offiong move from Carlisle to Rotherham falls through

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has described Richard Offiong's proposed loan move to Rotherham United as being "dead in the water".

Offiong, 25, was set to join the Millers last week before the deal fell through at the last minute.

"It's timely because we're having a few problems with the strikers in terms of injuries at the moment," Abbott said.

The former Hamilton forward has been unable to hold down a starting place with the Cumbrians this season.

Offiong, who has also had spells with Newcastle, Doncaster, Motherwell, York and Darlington, has scored only once since joining United in a £75,000 deal from the SPL side in September.

Millers boss Ronnie Moore confirmed last week that Offiong was a player he would like to bring in to his squad.

The player did not travel with the Carlisle squad ahead of last weekend's game at Wycombe and was set to complete a one-month loan deal with the League Two side.

Both clubs have not revealed why the deal fell through.

"It's between Ronnie and myself," Abbott said.

"We have to leave it at that to protect everybody and make sure (things) don't get misconstrued."
