Injury to Danny Livesey worries Carlisle boss Abbott

Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott says he is concerned about the injury to defender and captain Danny Livesey at Gillingham on Saturday.

"He didn't look good when he came off," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"It's a hamstring problem and they can be tricky, so it's fingers crossed with Danny - he gives us height and pace."

Livesey joined Carlisle from Bolton Wanderers in December 2004 and has been a key figure in the first team since, including two promotion seasons.

Meanwhile the future of loan players such as Tom Taiwo and Adam Clayton, plus striker Vincent Pericard, who will be out of contract in January, is another headache for Abbott going into the Christmas period.

Abbott said negotiations were already under way to retain the trio.

"We'll have to see," he said. "I've got to get into work, get into training and contract stuff, and we hope to persuade them.

"I'd rather do it as soon as I can but the players have agents and a lot of other situations and there's a lot to take into consideration but we're desperately trying."
