Abbott will not be drawn on the futures of Kevin Gall and Grant Smith
Carlisle United manager Greg Abbott has indicated that the arrival of defender Tony Kane could be his last move in the loan window this season.
Kane, 20, joined on loan from Blackburn Rovers this week.
"We can't just keep bringing in player after player," Abbott told BBC Radio Cumbria. "We know we've got a few players coming back from injury.
"We can't carry too many more players because there is not a bottomless pit when it comes to money."
Kane made his Carlisle debut as a second-half substitute in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw against Walsall at Brunton Park.
Captain Paul Thirlwell gave the Cumbrians a 19th minute lead with his third goal of the season before conceding an 86th minute penalty, converted by Michael Ricketts.
If the situation gets to the stage where I need more I'll go and ask the board for that player and we'll move on from there
Carlisle boss Greg Abbott
Abbott admitted he was looking forward to the return of several influential players as Carlisle bid to secure their League One safety.
"We'll have Graham Kavanagh and Michael Liddle back at the weekend and hopefully Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and Jeff Smith will be back soon as well, so when you get those sort of players back the squad is big enough," he said.
"We're already up to 22, 23 in number in the squad, so we just have to work with what we've got and, to be fair, this is the same squad that beat Huddersfield, Leeds and the MK Dons.
"We'll stick at it and if the situation gets to the stage where I need more I'll go and ask the board for that player and we'll move on from there."
Abbott would not be drawn on the futures of striker Kevin Gall and midfielder Grant Smith, who have both found themselves out of the first-team picture this season and are out of contract at Brunton Park in the summer.
"They are around and training and it's up to them to produce in the reserves," said Abbott.
"They've got to perform in the reserves to prove that they're better than what we've got out there and up to now I haven't seen that, so that's the situation."
Tuesday night's draw with the Saddlers saw Carlisle move up one place to 17th in League One, six points above the relegation places.
Midfielder Chris Lumsdon completed his first 90 minutes of the season on his return from a back injury while former Bolton midfielder Michael Burns made his debut at left-back as a second-half substitute.
"We produced a first-half performance that could have won us a lot of games," added Abbott.
"We had to dig in in the second half but at the end of the day it's got be a point gained and another step in the right direction.
"There's a lot of hard work still to be done but two or three wins would see us looking at the top end of the table just as two or three defeats would see us looking the other way.
"So it's a really important stage of the season and that's why my experience and the spirit we've got in this group needs to come to the fore and work our way through this."
Abbott also confirmed that injuries picked up by David Raven and Evan Horwood in the Walsall draw are unlikely to keep both players out of Saturday's trip to Brighton & Hove Albion.
Raven suffered a dead leg while Horwood was forced off with cramp.
