Wayne Gray aims for new Cambridge United deal

Cambridge United striker Wayne Gray is working hard to impress boss Martin Ling enough to be awarded a new contract at the Abbey.

The 30-year-old is on a short-term deal which ends on 15 January.

He told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "I've enjoyed my time here, but it's down to the manager really and I just need to keep working hard.

"I've still got a month and half to go on my current deal, so I just need to force the issue by playing well."

Gray signed for the club in the summer, having previously worked with Ling at Leyton Orient.

He has started the past 10 matches for the U's having initially struggled to establish himself in the first XI.

"Every game you play you obviously want to get fitter and sharper and I'm not far off where I want to be," he said.

"As a striker you'd ideally like to play down the middle, but we've done well with myself playing wide-right and I'm happy with that."
