Rolls is desperate to bring the U's wage bill under control
Cambridge United chairman George Rolls has warned that more players will have to be put up for sale if boss Gary Brabin is to add to his squad.
Midfielders Jon Challinor and Courtney Pitt have already been transfer-listed.
Rolls told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "We've given Gary a very competitive budget and he'll have to wheel and deal to make it work.
"He may have to get a few more players out if he wants to get players in as he's currently over budget."
The U's have re-signed Chris Holroyd and Lee Phillips and made Jai Reason's loan deal permanent for the new season, but remain in talks with Phil Bolland and Daryl McMahon.
Some players have got to get real and accept we want people who will be playing for the right sort of money

Rolls has confirmed that until players leave, they are unlikely to agree terms with Bolland or McMahon.
"We spoke to Phil and offered him a contract, but were we miles from agreeing a deal," he said.
"Some players have got to get real and accept we want people who will be playing for the right sort of money."
The U's are looking to cut back after spending big over the past couple of seasons.
However the club has received a financial boost with local legal firm R Costings agreeing a two-year deal to sponsor the Abbey Stadium.
The ground will now be known as the R Costings Abbey Stadium after just over a year as the Trade Recruitment Stadium.
Rolls' Trade Recruitment company will honour the five-year sponsorship deal which they signed in May 2007.
"It's very good money for the club, it's probably the second or third best bit of business that we've done over the past 15 years at the club," Rolls said of the R Costings deal.
"Per annum it's not as high as the Trade Recruitment deal, but as owner I'll still be putting the money into the club so it's a win-win situation."
