Cambridge United boss Gary Brabin will leave striker Mark Beesley out of his squad for Tuesday's trip to AFC Telford United in the Setanta Shield.
The former Forest Green man needed stitches after a clash of heads in Saturday's 0-0 draw against Rushden.
Brabin told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: "It looks pretty nasty, it was right to the bone, but he's done a bit of light training today.
"We're not going to risk him against Telford as it's a pretty nasty wound."

Brabin is confident the former Accrington man can learn to curb his aggression.
"He's just got to learn to channel his aggression into his football, because we all know the ability Lee's got," he said.
Cambridge enter the Setanta Shield at the third-round stage, but Brabin admits he is not overly concerned about progressing.
"Obviously our main priority is the league, but we're not going to underestimate any competitive games," he said.
"It's a good chance to play people who are on the fringe of things."
