Buchanan made 40 appearances for Bury last season

Bury have released full-back David Buchanan after the player stalled over contract talks.

Buchanan, 27, progressed through the club's youth system and went on to make 206 appearances for the Shakers.

Manager Alan Knill told the club website: "We have constantly tried to get in touch with David but have heard nothing back."

Buchanan had appeared at the club for pre-season training but is now available on a free transfer.

After initially being offered terms the lack of communication appears to have cost Buchanan his place at Bury.

Knill stated: "We've tried to get in contact with him for a whole month but there has been no communication whatsoever.

"It's ridiculous, it only takes a phone call but we haven't had any so I had to go out and sign a left-back. Joe Skarz is young and ambitious and he asked me if he was going to be playing, he had plenty of other offers. I told him yes, he would be playing."
