Darren Patterson is handed new role at Bristol Rovers
Patterson joined Rovers last summer as head of youth
Bristol Rovers have appointed Darren Patterson as the new assistant to manager Paul Trollope.
The 40-year-old former Northern Ireland international, who was a player with Crystal Palace and Luton Town, has been handed the newly created role.
Patterson joined Rovers as head of youth in June 2009 after a spell as Oxford United manager.
Rovers are restructuring after terminating the contract of director of football Lennie Lawrence.
"I'm delighted," Patterson told BBC Radio Bristol. "It's a big honour, it's a fantastic football club and I'm very excited to be working with Paul.
"I will be assisting an outstanding manager and coach. Paul and I have worked together, side-by-side, for nearly a year. He knows my strengths and hopefully I can add to his already proven qualities.
"I'm a coach and I'll be very hands on working with the players, both the first team and the younger players we are bringing through," he added.
