Northern Ireland's Hughes opened his account for Rovers
Bristol Rovers first-team coach Paul Trollope was pleased with his side's performance against Danish side FC Copenhagen despite a 3-2 defeat.
Rovers lost the opening game of their Scandinavian tour on Tuesday, despite taking the lead through Jeff Hughes.
Sean Rigg scored a late consolation for the League One Pirates.
"A lot of things are shaping up very nicely. In terms of our passing and composure that was the best so far," Trollope told the club website.
He continued: "We wanted a progression from the performance against Torquay, and we certainly got it. We had an exceptional first half and we passed the ball very, very well and created a number of chances.
"We took a deserved lead with a good goal from Jeff Hughes and our defensive organisation was good and Copenhagen weren't a threat at all.
"Unfortunately three individual errors in defensive situations cost us, which meant we lost the game. However it's not about the result, it's about the progression and the performances and we feel we certainly attained that."
