Striker Nicky Maynard has high hopes for Bristol City

Striker Nicky Maynard says manager Steve Coppell can help Bristol City fulfil their Premier League dreams.

Coppell was appointed last week and officially takes over from caretaker boss Keith Millen after their final Championship match at Blackpool.

"He [Coppell] has a remarkable CV and hopefully he can help us get promotion," the 23-year-old told BBC Radio Bristol.

Maynard is City's top-scorer this season with 20 goals.

He scored twice in the 2-1 home win over Derby County on Saturday and has now reached his self-imposed target for the season.

And Maynard believes that City have already shown signs that they are ready to hit the ground running next season.

"The last few home games have been great," he said. "We've put in some good performances and got some good results.

"We had our blip halfway through the season, where we didn't win as many games as we'd like but, in the last couple of months, we've proved how good we actually are and that we can be up there with the top six.

He added: "Hopefully next season we can have a big push for promotion and have a good campaign."

Maynard revealed that he does not usually set scoring targets but felt under no extra pressure to reach the 20-goal mark.

"I had no qualms about it. Thankfully I've done it with a game to spare.

"I go into every game expecting to score but usually I don't set targets. This season I just came out and said it because I was confident enough after my first spell here."
