Johnson sent his players out to show that the fans were behind them
Bristol City boss Gary Johnson sent his players and staff onto the pitch to applaud the fans before the match with Plymouth Argyle in a show of unity.
It followed criticism from supporters at the weekend which led to defender Bradley Orr calling BBC Radio Bristol's phone-in show to defend his teammates.
Johnson told BBC Points West: "Ten people calling into the radio station can feel like 10,000 are against you.
"And I wanted to show the lads that 10,000 people aren't."
Johnson added: "If we clap them at the start of the game you watch how many people appreciate what you're doing.
"Our supporters showed us that and they were magnificent."
'Win was for the fans' - Haynes
Former Ipswich striker Danny Haynes opened the scoring for Bristol City with just 17 minutes to go, before the home side went on to win 3-1.
"It was massive to pull out the result, we owed it to ourselves and the fans," Haynes said.
"That's why we paid tribute to the fans and they were behind us the whole game."
"It's always nice to get that buzz and the players get revved up. The adrenalin goes through the player's bodies when you hear the crowd roar," added the 21-year-old.
"It's nice to get my second goal and they'll be many more to come."
