Bristol City defender Bradley Orr responded to fan criticism by calling the BBC Radio Bristol phone-in show after the 1-1 draw with Peterborough.

"There's a fan shouting at me at the end of the game saying you should be ashamed of yourself," said Orr.

"Me and the lads are giving everything we've got for the Bristol City shirt.

"The majority of the fans are brilliant but there's a couple who are just so negative and I think it's just a little bit over the top," he added.

"I am the first to hold my hands up - at times my quality needs to be better and I'm working on it day in, day out.

"First and foremost, I'm a defender and I'm part of a back four that is second best in the Championship," said the 26-year-old.

"Going forward I need to be better picking people out [with crosses], but you tell me how many full-backs in the Premier League set up chances week in, week out?

"You've got to stay positive because the squad is fantastic - the best by a mile that I've been involved in.

"I look at where we've come in the last three to four years - when the gaffer came in, we were bottom of the league and we're now two points of fourth place in the Championship."

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson says he understands why his right-back responded in the way he did.

"People who are as passionate as Brad are not willing to sit in their car and listen to some of the stuff that goes on.

"When a supporter leaves the ground when a goal goes in that late, he's desperate to moan at something or someone.

"If the cat's out and the wife is at bingo, he picks up the phone to have a moan.

"The only way we can alleviate that is to win games and that's what we're trying to do."

Bristol City have won four, drawn six and lost two of their first 12 league games and currently lie in ninth spot in the Championship on 18 points.
