Bristol City defender Bradley Orr has signed a new two-and-a-half year deal that will see him stay at Ashton Gate until the end of the 2010/11 season.
The right-back, 26, who joined the Robins from Newcastle United in July 2004, had been expected to leave after rejecting two previous contract offers.
"He feels the club's ambitious enough, he needed time to think and we gave him that time," said manager Gary Johnson.
"Now he's a fully-fledged Bristol City player and we're very happy with that."
Orr was linked with a move away in the summer and has been on the transfer list since November.
But Johnson recalled Orr to the first-team before Christmas, he has figured in the club's last four games and is now six matches off racking up 200 appearances for the club.
Orr told BBC Points West: "I'm absolutely delighted, I'm on cloud nine. It took so long because sometimes with contracts that's how it goes.
"To be fair to the gaffer, who I've got a great relationship with, I've known where I've stood since day one.
"There had been interest from other clubs, but I never want to get sidetracked away from the ultimate ambition in my career which is to play in the Premier League and I feel it's definitely achievable at Bristol City."
Johnson described securing Orr's services as being like a "new signing".
"He's been a fantastic servant for this football club and we always wanted him to stay," he told Points West.
"I couldn't play him while he was thinking about it because you're never quite sure where their heads are, but he always said when we needed him he'd be ready and he was."
