Adebola has played 41 games for the Robins this season
Manager Gary Johnson wants a decision from Dele Adebola as to whether the striker is staying at Bristol City.
The 34-year-old has scored 10 goals in the Championship this term but could move on after 18 months at City, who are only offering him a 12-month deal.
Johnson remains in the dark over Adebola's plans but is hopeful of a decision soon after the season's end.
"There's a time limit and we need a very good indication by early next week," Johnson told BBC Points West.
"If he stays it means it's one player that you haven't got to bring in, but if he goes it's a very important part of our team to bring in a new face.
"He's not giving any clues at the moment. When I did have a meeting I felt he was possibly moving on. Then a couple of days later you feel that there's a bit more of a percentage of him staying. He's a poker player and we're waiting for him to make his decision."
Adebola was linked with a move to Nottingham Forest during the January transfer window and Sheffield Wednesday is another reported possible summer destination.
City drew 1-1 with Wednesday in their last home game of the season, but after the final whistle visiting boss Brian Laws refused to be drawn on speculation regarding a move for Adebola.
"It's far too early to talk about transfer targets," he said. "I'm aware that we have been linked with Adebola, but no business is done at this stage of the year so there is nothing I can say."
