Johnson confident on Adebola deal

Adebola's strike against Reading made it four goals in his last four games

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has expressed confidence that striker Dele Adebola will sign a new contract.

The 33-year-old, who has scored four goals in his last four games, signed in January 2008 and his current deal expires at the end of the season.

Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol: "Talks have been ongoing and hopefully he's happy with what's been put forward.

"I'm leaving that to the powers that be but I'm sure that he'll be a City player for longer than this season."

City turned down an offer from Nottingham Forest in the January transfer window and chairman Steve Lansdown and chief executive Colin Sexstone are conducting the talks.

Johnson added: "We've always seen him as a major part of our squad.

"And he's certainly come up trumps and been a major player in our last 10-12 games with his goals, work-rate and presence.

"He's getting back to that unplayable Dele Adebola that we know he is."
