Nottingham Forest have failed with a bid for Bristol City's Nigerian international striker Dele Adebola.
Bristol City received an undisclosed offer from their Championship rivals on transfer deadline day but are unwilling to sell the 33-year-old.
"It's too late to do business and we don't want to lose Dele," City manager Gary Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.
"He's out of contract at the end of the season but we have made him an offer to stay another year."
"We've had a couple of big offers for our players but we are not going to be selling them," added Johnson.
Chairman Steve Lansdown added on Bristol City's official website: "We did receive an offer from Forest for Dele, but it has been turned down.
"We have told them that we are not interested in selling at all."
Adebola joined Bristol City in January 2008 for an undisclosed fee having previously played for Crewe, Birmingham and Coventry.
Bristol City are on a good run having beaten Barnsley and Plymouth in recent weeks to revive their hopes of a play-off place.
Victory against Charlton on Tuesday could see them close the gap on sixth placed Preston to four points.
And Johnson has urged his side to kick on and try and push for a top six place.
He said: "We have to treat every game as a cup final so we can push for a play-off place.
"If we do that we will pick up points and we'll have to see at the end of the season if it is enough."
