Bristol City fined over transfer

Bristol City have been fined for dealing with an unlicensed agent.

The club has also been warned as to its future conduct after enlisting Mark Wilson during the transfer of Enoch Showunmi from Luton in June 2006.

A third of City's £15,000 fine has been suspended, while striker Showunmi, who moved to Leeds United in July 2008, was fined £2,000.

The Football Association withdrew a second allegation against the club concerning another breach of its rules.

"The FA are making themselves look fools in trying to regulate agents and inevitably it's the clubs who suffer," said Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown.

"We talk to the wrong person, get fined and are made to look like criminals.

"That person cannot be punished. The player involved gets fined a pittance and the agents who we paid in accordance with the FA regulations get away scot free."

Showunmi, who went on loan to Sheffield Wednesday during his 18 months at Ashton Gate, admitted a separate charge of using Wilson. The independent Regulatory Commission fined him for three breaches and warned him as to his future conduct.

Agent Charles Collymore was charged with entering into a sham arrangement with Wilson but denied all the charges and the Commission found the charges against him not proved.
