Brooker recently returned to Ashton Gate from a loan spell at Cheltenham, where he proved his fitness with five goals in six games after months on the sidelines with knee problems.
And City manager Gary Johnson admitted that Brooker's late goal in the 2-1 win was an emotional experience for him as well.
"There had been a lump in my throat when it went in," he said.
"I've seen how hard he's had to work and the days when he's been really down when he's come back and then had to go back and have another operation because it wasn't quite working.
"It's a major part of somebody's career when they're out for 18 months. He missed the promotion, he was part of that by being here but obviously didn't play many games.
"All my books have good endings, and 'Brooks' has had a good ending for his injury."
